What is your favorite thing about this business?

The ever-changing environment of the roofing business.  Each day is different!  I love the challenges presented by the roofing business.

 

What is your least favorite thing about this business:

Recently watching the recession and the down turn in the economy impact and affect the businesses and lives of many of our CRSMCA Members and friends.

 

When did you first get involved with CRSMCA?

1987

 

What positions have you held since becoming a member of CRSMCA:

District 3 Associate Group Liaison, Member of the Carolinas Contacts Magazine Committee, Associate Group Secretary/Treasurer (2005-2006), Associate Group 2nd Vice President (2006-2007), Associate Group 1st Vice President (2007-2008), Associate Group President (2008-2009)

 

What are the top 3 benefits you have gained, either professionally or personally, by being an active member of CRSMCA?

  1. An understanding of the inner workings of the CRSMCA and the value and benefits we try to bring to our members
  2. Fulfillment and accomplishment of achieving goals set forth as a Board member for the Associate Group and currently as the Associate Group President
  3. I have gained lifelong friendships and relationships from the many people I have met and have touched my life through my involvement in the CRSMCA

PERSONAL QUESTIONS:

 

How would you describe yourself?

very ambitious and an achiever

 

Are you married or do you have a significant other?

yes, my wife is Janet and we will be celebrating 22 years of marriage on October 10th

 

Do you have any kids?

yes, I have 2 wonderful kids: daugther, Sierra, who will be a sophmore at UNC Charlotte and son, Devin, who will be going into 5th grade at Kendal Valley, New London, NC

 

Do you have any pets?

yes, we have cats, dogs, and horses.  We actually do pony rides for birthdays, picnics, festivals, church functions, and corporate events, which we have done for 4 years.  My wife, Janet, formed the business and her website is www.carolinaponyparties.com

 

If someone visits your area, what is something they must see or do?

We have Morrow Mountain State Park, which is surrounded by Badin Lake and Lake Tillery, that offers hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, and horseback riding.  There is also the Kron House at the park where Dr. Kron and his family live in the 1800's.

 

What do you dislike?

Negative personalities or attitudes

 

What do you love?

a good challenge or opportunity

 

What is the last book you read?

Victor Kiam's, Going For It

 

What is the last movie you watched?

"Taken"

 

You're stuck on a plane/train for 6-hours and bored out of your mind, what do you do to amuse yourself?

I believe I would use the time to plan my upcoming travel schedule.  I would also read some magazines to get caught up on some current events and possibly take in a movie to make the best of a 6 hour trip.

 

Any last words?

I have thoroughly enjoyed going through the different chair positions while serving on the Associate Group Board.  I have also served as a previous Associate Group Liaison for District 3 (Charlotte, NC) and a member of the Carolinas Contacts Magazine Committee.  My parting words are to believe in yourself, believe in your Association.  Remember you can make a difference!  Get involved in your Association.  There are many committees you can join.  your input and involvement is welcomed and we hope you consider joining one of the many committees the Association has to offer.  Check out the website, www.crsmca.org, or feel free to contact Carla Blanton at the Association office (704.556.1228).
